12 and Holding (2005)
Conor Donovan was brilliant in this. I couldn't quite make my mind up about the rest of it though. At times it was harrowing, at times awkward, at times funny - all the basic elements of adolescence. But I couldn't help feeling the funny scenes ended up diluting the overall drama, rather than counterpointing it.
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10The 1940s House (2001)
Fantastic concept, and they couldn't have chosen a better family to take part.
The Hymers were a perfect example of a 21st century family reliant upon pre-packaged food and the luxuries of modern living, so having to deal with the austerity and deprivation of wartime conditions came as more than a challenge for them.
In true boyhood spirit, the boys grasped the experience with both hands though :-)
My Movie Rating: 10 / 103 Ninjas (1992)
Very cool kid's action movie.
My Movie Rating: 7 / 103 Ninjas Kick Back (1994)
I think the franchise missed a beat with this one - the first one and '...Knuckle Up' were definitely the stronger of the three movies.
My Movie Rating: 5 / 103 Ninjas Knuckle Up (1993)
The plot may be contrived, but still a good action movie.
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T. (1953)
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
Futuristic re-telling of the story of Pinnochio. Fantastic movie, and yet another fantastic performance by Haley.
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10About a Boy (2002)
A good adaptation of Nick Hornby's novel. It doesn't stick rigidly to the book, which in many ways is a good thing - I enjoyed the novel, and I don't think it would sit too well if the film was just a duplicate.
I'm not a big Hugh Grant fan, and to my mind, his performance wasn't a million miles away from his character in Four Weddings & A Funeral.
That was about my only gripe though - Nicholas Hoult was a wonderfully weird Marcus, and Toni Collette was pretty good as well.
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10The Adventures of Huck Finn (1993)
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10The Adventures of Pinocchio (1996)
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994)
For a long time, I've only seen the first half of this movie for some reason.
But as a whole, it's fantastic. Reminded me of William Snape's enthusiasm for his dad's performance in The Full Monty, Terence Stamp is cool as ever.
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10The Amazing Panda Adventure (1995)
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10American Gothic (1995-1996)
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10And You Thought Your Parents Were Weird (1991)
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Angela's Ashes (1999)
A fantastic film about one boy's struggle through grinding poverty to manhood. There are many bleak and tragic moments, from the outset, but it is a highly inspiring film about the power of the human spirit against all odds.
My Movie Rating: 10 / 10Angels in the Outfield (1995)
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10Are We There Yet? (2005)
No more and no less than what I was expecting - occasionally amusing family comedy with a little too much heart string tugging towards the end.
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Arlington Road (1999)
The first few minutes really set the scene. Good movie, and a brave movie, but one which will leave you feeling utterly pessimistic about human nature.
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10Bad Santa (2003)
An amusing film. Billy Bob Thornton plays a wonderfully horrible character.
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Beethoven (1992)
