Biography
Born William Charles Allen Butts in Dallas, Texas, this much-liked, tow-headed boy-sidekick of screen cowboys such as Fred Thomson and Rex Bell took over from Jack Morgan as Chester Gump in the popular 'Gumps' series of two-reel comedies for the last year or so of the series' run. His waif-like qualities, however, did not survive puberty and he retired from acting at the age of 17.
