Stella Days
(2011)
Country: Ireland
Genre: Drama
Synopsis
In Tipperary County in rural Ireland in the 1950s, Father Daniel Berry decides to open a cinema - arousing the opposition of both the local bishop and a respected local politician. Things aren't helped when the young man who helps Fr. Berry with the project, and whom Berry has hired to teach at the parochial school, has an affair with a local woman whose husband works in England. When the woman's young son, Joey (Joey O'Sullivan) begins to ask Berry questions about why he became a priest, it forces him to examine his own past and the nature of his faith. Will Berry manage to resolve the conflicts in his own life, besides reconciling Rome with Hollywood?
Notes
- Inspired by the book "Stella Days: The Life and Times of a Rural Irish Cinema", by Michael Doorley, which concerns the true story of how a small cinema came into being in the town of Borrisokane in County Tipperary
