Synopsis
The great Jimmy Edwards stars as Professor James Edwards, M.A., a drunken, gambling, devious, cane-swishing headmaster who tyrannises over staff and boys alike at Chiselbury public school. When Edwards isn't busy caning his young charges he is trying to swindle them out of their pocket money!

- Written by Frank Muir and Denis Norden
- Comprising 60 half-hour episodes spread over 8 seasons. The first 7 seasons (in black-and-white) ran on the BBC from 1956 to 1960. The series was subsequently revived under the slightly altered title "Whacko!" for an eighth season (in colour) which ran from 1971 to 1972. For the first season - which comprised 6 episodes - the series bore the subtitle "Six of the Best". From the whole series, only 7 episodes are known to have survived, including 6 black-and-white episodes from the original series, and one colour episode transmitted in 1971.
- This TV series led to the spin-off film Bottoms Up (1960), in which Jimmy Edwards and Arthur Howard reprised their respective roles from the series.
