Synopsis
At the beginning of the twentieth century, Margaret Thursday, a foundling whose surname is derived from the day she was discovered on the church steps, has been looked after for several years by two kind old ladies. But when the money for her upkeep stops coming, she is sent to an orphanage where she is persecuted by the villainous matron, but makes friends with Lavinia Beresford - who is going into service as a scullery maid - and Lavinia's younger brothers, bookish Peter (Simon Gipps-Kent) and little Horatio (David Tully). When finally she runs away, she takes the two Beresford boys with her...
