Synopsis
Although Nicola is an ambitious, hardworking man, he sees himself as a failure. Because of this he wants his thirteen year old son to work harder and become smarter than he himself did. This wish justifies beatings and constant scoldings toward his son. He is sent to work with some rope manufacturers, who work him like a dog. The boy himself wants to be a champion runner.
