Synopsis
Julius is a young boy who has been abandoned first by his father and then by his stepfather; when his mother becomes sick and enters a hospital, Julius is sent to a children's shelter in New York City. There Julius is befriended by a perceptive black counselor named Luke. When Luke has to leave temporarily, Julius is outraged: he feels he is being deserted again. Julius joins his street-wise roommate, Max, and steals a poor woman's purse and runs away. In the end, however, Luke and Julius are reunited.
