Pani kluci (1975)

Pleasant enough movie but the DVD seems to lack continuity, as if scenes have been removed to make the film shorter, though I've no idea what the original length was. I struggled to give this film a 6/10 because the acting is over the top and the subtitles are often poorly translated and at times quite obviously incorrect. The kid actors are certainly appealing and they alone make the film worth checking out.

Paradise, Texas (2005)

Watchable, pleasant, low-key movie offers no surprises with it's rather predictable storyline. Ben Estus is appealing as a 'Billy Elliot' type kid who loves to dance and gets cast in a movie opposite a fading star actor. The strikingly handsome Dylan Patton plays the actor's eldest son, a budding movie maker who makes his own little movies with a video camera.

Pietje Bell (2002)

Quinten Schram and Frensch de Groot are very appealing as the two young leads but the action is rather slapstick and the acting by some of the adults is often too hamish.

Pohadka o malickovi (1985)

Russian/Latvian fairytale. Roland Neilands is the young hero 'Tiny' and he is seen throughout the film. There are no English subs on the DVD I've got, which is actually dubbed in German, which wasn't too distracting, the voices seemed to match reasonably well. The story is easy enough to follow and is typical fairytale stuff, with the appropriate nasty characters. The special effects are pretty crude at times. The main attraction is young Ronalds Neilands who is very appealing in the central role, tis a pity he doesn't appear to have made any other movies.

Potkal jsem ho v zoo (1994)

The first half of this movie is quite charming but the second half disappoints as the plot becomes more and more improbable. The two lead boys are very appealing. Boy actors: 9/10. Plot 4/10.

The Prince and the Pauper (1962)

A reasonable enough Disney effort. Scully is pretty good in the dual role, but Guy Williams has an American accent (did they think no one would notice?) and is nowhere near as good as Errol Flynn was. The plot, however is highly unbelievable unless one treats it like a fairy tale.

Riding in Cars with Boys (2001)

Logan Lerman only appears for a few minutes in the later part of the movie but is quite effective. Cody Arens plays the same character at an earlier age. He has more screen time than Logan and is excellent. Unfortunately we don't see him until about halfway through the movie.
