8 / 10 Valuable documentary, but determinedly optimistic and in spots over-sugared. The Autism Puzzle is an even better watch, as is the four-part BBC series Young, Autistic and Stagestruck, which, similarly, follows a group of autistic kids putting on a play. It features nine kids rather than five, and a wider range of ages. I thought it did a better job of depicting all points on the autistic spectrum, from the periodic incontinence of the lowest-functioning kid to the meltdowns and suicidal depression of the two highest-functioning. However, Autism: The Musical does delve more into the impact on the parents of their children's disabilities. I did think though that it was a bit irresponsible to allow the statements of two of the parents that they believed their children's disabilities were partly caused by "chemicals in the vaccines" to pass without comment.
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10 7 / 10 as a person on the specturm I enjoyed how they showed the positive side of autism specturm disorders as well as the bad.
