I thought it was a decent movie, I had a little trouble with the abuse scene in the park. As far as the plot of the film goes, I wondered if it would have been better if it were established in some way that Joshua had "Unattached Syndrome"!
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10I wasn't expecting much. There are actually some interesting and unusual ideas being explored in this movie that you wouldn't expect from your typical "evil kid" thriller. But it's poorly executed.
My Movie Rating: 5 / 10Well, Jacob Kogan stole my heart. I was distressed to see the sweet looking boy playing an evil kid.
With that out of the way, I have to agree the movie had too many ambiguities and an incomplete insight into Joshua's character and motives. I was forced to believe Josh was an evil kid from the get-go, a psychopath driven only by pleasure or pain with no conscience. From the DVD commentary, I'm guessing the director and writer tried too hard to be original with their take on the evil kid genre; hence the confusing bits.
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10First: Jacob looked great and did a great job being evil. Second: the producer or director did a lousy job. It was a weird movie, with no real way to understand what was starting to happen to Joshua. Nowhere near as good as many other such movies. Andreas makes some good points in HIS review in that the vagueness is somewhat unique and interesting... but I'm not sure it makes the film any better.
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Jacob's performance is actually decent - he's good at portraying that odd edge in his character. The story is a bit too subtle for a horror movie, the psychological terror is certainly there. Missing was a clear-cut background story as to why Joshua actually started acting weird - was it demonic possession? Was it a psychological defect, bequeathed to him by his mother? What exactly is the role of his uncle Ned? I find these questions intruiging, and they make the movie more interesting than it appears at first glance.
