8 / 10 If that is really what went on in the El Salvadorian civil war then it's inhumanity makes your heart sink. Carlos Padilla was remarkable as Chava, a boy struggling to be a boy yet surrounded by abject poverty, death and depraved brutality. The people had nothing and yet they were caught between the soldiers and the partisans who cared little about human life. Carlos could be nominated for a BA Oscar as his performance was so outstanding. How children could survive such a horrific environment makes you realise how tough a child like Chava had to be. A great film interspersed with the occasional humour like Chava's 'farty' sister and the boy getting a job on the bus.
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10 8 / 10 7 / 10 A powerfully emotional movie! no boys of that age should have see the horrors that Chava saw, his friend pressed into war, other friends shot for resisting! I was so moved by this movie, I almost had to stop watching! all the boys did exceptionally well! especially Padilla! I couldn't understand what they were saying, but I could feel the emotion! I would love to see this in an English Dubbed/subtitled version.
5/27/2013 I just watch it again, this time with English subtitle, so now I understand more of what he was going through! Geart movie!!
