OK but the book is a lot better, not least because it deals more frankly with the subject matter. Nick Stahl is a treat to watch.
My Movie Rating:

Obviously a film that is a must on any boy film collector's shelf. The subject matter dealing with love between a man and a boy is controversial enough for a start. I wonder what made the book's author, Isabelle Holland, actually decide to write on such a subject. Apparently, in the book, the teacher does have sex with the boy but, of course, such 'shocking' things could not appear in a nice Hollywood movie.
Great acting from Nick Stahl who possibly was worthy of a BA Oscar nomination for his performance. The build up of the relationship is well handled by Mel Gibson, the director.
My Movie Rating:

Gibson works very well with kids, He's the Father of a large family, 12 or 15, I think! I first saw Nick in the tv movie, "Woman With a Past" and have followed his career ever since. for this movie he gets the 9/10 because he's the central character. Mel gets a 10/10 because for me, it goes without saying, Mel is the best! he just doesn't make a bad movie in my book!

One of my favorites...

Nick Stahl was super in this film; I always did like him and these points was mainly for him. The movie, overall, was a bit disturbing to me. It hurts me to see these "man's inhumanity to man"-type movies where in today's age we enjoy jumping to conclusions (generally false) without sorting out the facts. And unfortunately some people like the mother in this movie already gave the guilty verdict before anything was said. I have to remember that this is today and this is the way people do things today and I do feel sorry for those who are trapped in these crazy and unfounded conclusions. Unfortunately in this movie, it was the boy that was irreparably harmed not because of the man but because of the government. Of course, they don't want to think that.
