Willy Wonka is much much better but this is OK.

Personally I prefer the 1971 version with Peter Ostrum, but the darker tone of this one is probably more in keeping with Roald Dahl's body of work. He wrote some seriously creepy short stories for adults and there's something of the same sensibility in his beloved children's novels.

Freddie was perfect! Jorden was lovable as the obnocious little brat Mike Teevee, a stark opposite of the original! I don't think this movie was any better than the Willy Wonka version, but it's AS good, I just don't care too much for Tim Burton, He leans too much toward the macob, in film making, all of his films have very "Gothy" aroma to them.

Better than "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" which was IMO rather bland and sappy. Tim Burton's version has more of a sinister edge to it and I enjoyed the 'in' jokes and references to other films. It's a pity Depp didn't do any moon-walking or start singing "Bad". I particularly loved the squirrel scene.

Great movie. Freddie Highmore was the greatest.
