I enjoyed seeing Liam get so much camera time. His facial expressions are so enjoyable. This is a good family movie.
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10Liam Aiken is charming as Owen the boy who befriends the know-all dog from another planet. Obviously appealing to doggy lovers the film does, at least, get away from the usual sentimental schmaltz of so many boy/dog films. This one injects humour into its canine stars and this, coupled with Liam's great acting, saves the day as it were.
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10I'll have to give it an 8. Liam Aiken has much screen time and is absolutely endearing in his role as the lonesome kid. I do admit that the story itself is rather predictable and obviously aimed at younger kids, but the message shines through. This message is the gift of friendship and trust, symbolized by Liam and his dog, but to be adapted to any kind of relationship. Liam does a brilliant job in showing his emotions and thus makes the movie valuable. Inspiring and very decent with a universal message - how many movies have that??

Oh God, it's awful! When, at the end, the mom says 'Start unpacking - we're home for good' I laughed my head off! It was so predictable. (Although it doesn't really make sense, since they could always take the dog with them when they move. So why the sudden change of mind???) I can't believe that the producers managed to rope Vanessa Redgrave into doing one of the voices! Still, the whole thing's so unpretentious, it makes it almost beyond criticism. As a movie for very young children (10 or below) it's fine. Liam Aiken is a moderately charming actor.
