Oorlogsgeheimen (2014)

I have no other choice but to give it a 10. It is a beautiful movie. Yes, the theme is "war" but the subject isn't. I saw it as a movie purely about friendship and nothing else. Yes, both boys lost their innocence due to the cruelty of war. Yes, their friendship got to be tested quite a few times throughout the movie but at the end it was their friendship that saved both boys.

Both boy actors, Maas Bronhuyzen and Joes Brauens were terrific. They conveyed their feelings and emotions in a way a seasoned actor would do. Dialogs were short and to the point without wasting viewers time with lengthy conversations trying to convince viewers about main characters feelings, emotions and thoughts. In three specific scenes the facial expressions, the emotion and the acting in general felt very real and convincing. The ending scene sealed the movie and the friendship and with no doubt it became obvious that both friends have their hearts set in the right place.

Ways To Live Forever (2010)

This is not a tear-jerkier movie. This is not a sad movie. This is not even a movie about a boy with an incurable sickness. This movie is about life, about happiness, about hope and about fulfilling your wishes before you leave this Earth. When the movie started I was expecting (getting myself ready) to watch something with a lot of sad emotions but instead I enjoyed and laughed and smiled at every bit of this great movie. The plot was beautifully crafted in a way that at every single second of the film it gives you hope and a reason to cheer even the smallest achievements of Sam McQueen (Robbie Kay). Superb acting from both boy actors Robbie Kay and Alex Etel. The soundtrack was a great fit for the movie. Overall the movie was a pleasant take on such a tough subject.

Cyanure (2013)

This is a movie worth watching. It is uplifting and pleasant even though any trailers from this movie more or less did injustice portraying what the story might try to tell. One might expect a dark movie portraying a mean character for the "Dad" who just got released from prison, a sad and depressed young boy who hasn't seen his dad since the day he was born but, instead you come across a beautiful movie with interesting story to follow, considerably good and convincing acting by Alexandre Etzlinger (Achille)even though this is his first major acting part.

I hope you watch this movie and enjoy it as much as I did.

Melody (1971)

There has been a lot of poppy love stories and movies throughout my movie watching years that I seen. Some I have forgotten because they weren't really worth remembering. Some have had a slight impact on me. But one movie stands out throughout all those years "Melody". "Melody" is a kind of movie that you have to be a young kid to have an impact on you when you watch it for the first time. I was twelve when I saw this movie for the first time and to be honest I lived it for a while. I watched it many times after I was older and twice in last couple of years. When you are a kid and you watch this movie you don't care about how poor the acting was or how ordinary the story was. Those things don't matter when you are just beginning to find out about "love" and "kissing" and etc. What matters is you become the hero you want him to succeed in becoming one with the girl of his dreams.

Yes Mark Lester is cute and Jack Wild is wild and you want to be either of them when you are a preteen or a teenager watching this movie. The thing is when you are young and you watch it for the first time it stays with you and later in your older days you can enjoy it again because it brings back good memories.

In my opinion if you are going to watch this movie first put on your "adolescent" eyeglasses then watch it. You will enjoy it. After all we all have been young and naive once long time ago just like the heroes in this movie.

Standing Up (2013)

I just watched this movie for the first time and I would recommend it strongly. Even though it is classified as a movie for 11-12 years old kids but, it touches a subject that does concern a lot of grown ups as well. The acting is not flawless it has it ups and downs but, both Chandler Canterbury and his co-star Annalise Basso do their best to portrait kids who are an easy target for bullies. The movie is not a lovie-dovie kid stuff with boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl and so on. It sure is a decent coming of age movie for both characters. The choice of music is appropriate and scenery is breath taking since most of it is filmed in the outdoors.

I enjoyed every moment of the movie and not for a moment I felt like watching "kid stuff".

Syupriz (2008)

This is a nice movie. It isn't superb or extraordinary but it is good. I don't speak neither Ukrainian nor Russian but since the subject of the movie is somewhat complicated and yet a very common issue, one can follow it very closely without loosing much on the important stuff. The ending without giving away too much to spoil it for others is a nice one. What I mean is ... you want to have such an ending for a movie like this.

I gave it 8/10 because of decent acting and dealing with somehow complicated life issues.
