School of Rock (2003)

As an old poop with an old and deep prejudice against rock (I first heard the name Buddy Holly in my 20's and I said "Who??")I knew this was a movie I would hate. I hated the first 2 minutes. After that - well, I don't know what happened, but I liked it. It was fun and even charming. If there had been rock music way back when, this is a movie Frank Capra could have made.

Scrooge (1951)

This is one of the finer movies I've seen in a lifetime. The screenplay adds touches I think Dickens himself would have loved. Perfectly conceived and acted. IMO the 2nd finest screen treatment of a Dickens story, the first being David Lean's 'Great Expectations.'

Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993)

Aside from Max Pomeranc's engaging and talented presence, I have to mention Hal Scardino's scene where he shuffles out to tell the eager parents at the first big tournament, "it's over" and then ambles back to the game room. "WHO WON??" scream the parents at his retreating little form. A precious look at typical boy behavior.

The Second Jungle Book: Mowgli & Baloo (1997)

Jamie has got to be the most adorable little guy ever to play Mowgli - or any other jungle boy!

Secondhand Lions (2003)

A bit predictable, a lot of cliches but I got a huge kick out of this movie. The acting contest between two old venerables Michael Caine and Robert Duvall, with the help of one of the best boy actors of the last 50 years, is a real treat.

Un Secreto de Esperanza (2002)

At that age Imanol must have been one of the most adorable boys living. The interactions between the boy and the old woman are very movingly presented and superbly acted.
