The Mist (2007)

A great boy performance by Nathan Gamble! He is very emotional and absolutely brilliant as the terrified son of Thomas Jane. A typical Stephen King flick - you can actually spot a considerable number of actors who have appeared in previous King adaptations. Andre Braugher, the black lawyer, co-starred in Salem's Lot; Jeffrey DeMunn, who was one of the last survivors in the truck, had a significant role in Storm of the Century; William Sadler, the guy who turned into one of the religious manics, has worked with Darabont before and appeared in the famous Shawshank Redemption (which many don't even associate with King), and Frances Sternhagen, the old woman who was also in the truck with the last group of survivors, appeared in Stephen King's Misery (1990) and his 1991 series Golden Years. But the ultimate cookie for die-hard King fans is to be found in the opening scene, when Thomas Jane sits in his atelier and paints a picture of Roland and the Dark Tower! Wow! A brilliant extra xD

I thought the movie was a classic King story, with clear-cut characters and a situation in which a small group of people, composed of different individuals, finds itself in in a life-threatening scenario that reveals the dynamics of group paranoia and the effects such situations have on people who are cut off from society. A Lord of the Flies variation in a post-modern context. The suspense was always kept at a very high level, and final decision making process involving the escape and the eventual dramatic climax, were truly convincing. The visuals were just fine. Overall, one of the better King adaptations, a Darabont-King masterpiece like its predecessors Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. And a stunning young Nathan :)

Monsieur Batignole (2002)

Both an entertaining and a sincere movie. Jules Sitruk definitely did a very good job in here. The story had indeed some emotional involvements and was above the average. I liked the way Gerard Jugnot and Jules interacted with each other. Sometimes it was a bit oversubscribed and unrealistic - I'm thinking of the gorgeous sequence with the German soldier who had his knee dislocated - but nonetheless it didn't minimize the movie's natural charm. Solid acting, entertaining experience.

The Mosquito Coast (1986)

Both boys are absolutely magnificent in this movie. However, I can't help but feel that Harrison Ford's character turns into an obsessed madman, leading to a highly improbable storyline.

Møv og Funder (1991)

Just downgraded it to a 8 because it didn't really leave the kind of lasting impression on me I had thought it would.

Kasper is perfectly natural, sweet and kindhearted, a pleasure to watch. I thought his counterpart was ugly and a true contrast to the visual sublimity surrounding Kasper, but maybe that makes the story more realistic. The movie only lasts a good 60 minutes, but it manages to tell a convincing tale of friendship and trust. Kasper's character might be called naive for teaming up with an apparently rude and dangerous stranger, but it simply feels good to see this cute and perfectly kind boy and how he tries to fill the gap left by his absent father.

Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)

Yeah, here I needn't say much. It is a flat story, but it is entertaining and funny, and the idea beneath is very witty! Good acting, nice dialogues and simply a great performance by Robin Williams.

The Mummy Returns (2001)

It was okay. I watched it in the cinema a few years ago and never again since then. Freddie Boath makes it worth watching I guess. It didn't really live up to part I, but if you like this kind of entertainment, you ought to give it a try.

Frankie Muniz is a sincere actor. He has tremendous skills and is brilliant in here. It's a coming of age story with natural charm and many messages of life and growing up. Bravo, Frankie!

Oh yeah, My Girl! A heart-tugger. Moving and emotionally exposing. The kids do a great job in here, they make the movie special and add a message of life to it.

Mysterious Skin (2004)

I agree with Cal. The movie does have its qualities. Joseph bears the real emotional depth - his performance is simply awesome. You can almost feel how dead he is inside. However, both layers of the story circle around gay sex and its gruesome abysms - in explicit and very graphic sequences that might appall some audiences. It's a coming of age story of two boys who share a common past of sexual exploitation by their baseball coach. Very dark, very intense, occasionally very depressing. The sexual abuse of the kids is belittled in my eyes. The lasting effects on both boys are vast and deep. Yet there are no words of condemnation, even though the coach is a real pervert.

Mystic River (2003)

The kids at the beginning are doing a fine job. There's just too little time and plot for them to set their stamps on the movie. I like Connor Paolo's part. The overall story is very good, really a great cast.
