Synopsis
Young French girl Paulette is orphaned when her parents and pet dog are killed while fleeing the Nazis during WWII. Wandering through the countryside with her dead dog in her arms, she is befriended by farm boy Michel, who takes her home to stay with his family. They create an animal cemetery for pets killed in the fighting and use monuments from the nearby human cemetery to mark the graves. This desecration, as well as a trivial feud between rival farm families, threaten the children's newfound friendship.

9 / 10 This illustrates how a little boy and girl handle the war situation, realizing that no one cares about the dead animals that lies about and so they decided to do something about it even if it involves stealing crosses from a nearby church. A very interesting and entertainng film made possible by superb acting by these children.
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10 9 / 10 A moving but disturbing WWII movie that depicts the civilian cost of war. The kids cope in an innovative, disturbing but believable way. The adults leave the children to figure out war for themselves. I would recommend this movie to anyone interested in WWII movies.
