Synopsis
Young Simon Larsson (Jonatan S. W?chter), a working class lad growing up on the outskirts of Gothenburg, Sweden during World War II, is an avid reader, and dreams of the world beyond his simple rural household. He eventually convinces his reluctant parents to send him to an elite grammar school in the city, where he meets Isak (Karl Martin Eriksson), the son of a wealthy Jewish bookseller who has fled persecution in Nazi Germany. The lives of the two boys and their families intertwine as the war rages in Europe. At the end of the war, it becomes clear to Simon that his life, his family and his very identity will no longer be the same.
