Samostoyatelnaya zhizn
(1992)

AKA: An Independent Life

Country: France, Russia, UK

Genre: Coming of Age, Drama

IMDb

Synopsis

In this sequel to "Freeze, Die, Come to Life", our hero (Pavel Nazarov), now a handsome youth of roughly 15 years, is just as high-spirited as before - and still unable to keep out of trouble. His female chum Galia is dead, but her sister (Dinara Drukarove, who played the role of Galia in the earlier film) develops a love/hate relationship with him. Difficulties arise when the boy is accused of sabotage and again finds himself on the lam.

Notes

  • This film is the sequel to Zamri, umri, voskresni! (1989).
  • Winner of the Jury Prize at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival
  • The South Korean-manufactured DVD being offered by some vendors online is a censored version of this film. The Russian-manufactured DVD - which, for some incomprehensible reason, has on the DVD sleeve a picture of Barney Clark as Oliver from Polanski's film version of "Oliver Twist" (absolutely nothing to do with this movie) - is the complete, uncensored version of the film. However, the picture quality is VHS only. The uncensored version of this movie is also available to view on Vimeo (link below), albeit with burned-in French subtitles. An English subtitle file to accompany it is also provided below.

As good in its own way as its predecessor ("Freeze, Die, Come to Life"). Pavel Nazarov is a great actor and a very beautiful youth (watch the uncensored version!).
