Synopsis
'Noumenon' is a film about dreams. It deals with a child?s expectations as to what a mother should be. The film portrays a young boy (Julius Vestergaard) living in a derelict house, in a sometimes threatening world where the only place of comfort is in the warm embrace of his mother. But is she really there? Through ethereal images and sound-scapes the film slowly draws the audience into the curious, imaginative mind of a child lost in his dreams.

- In metaphysics, a 'noumenon' (pronounced NOO-men-on, plural 'noumena') is an object that can only be grasped intellectually, as opposed to an object that is accessible to the senses. This Greek word was introduced into philosophy by the great German philosopher Immanuel Kant (1724-1804), who held that we can only grasp the world in a manner adjusted to our cognitive faculties, so that our knowledge is strictly of 'phenomena', that is, the world as it appears to us. For Kant, the noumenal world - that is, the world as it truly is in itself - is not characterised by space, time, causality or any of our familiar categories, and is strictly unknowable.
