Synopsis
After being tricked and cast out of Bagdad by Jaffar, his evil Grand Vizier, King Ahmad joins forces with a thief named Abu (Sabu) to reclaim his throne, the city, and the Princess he loves, in an adventure involving a genie (or Djinn), a flying carpet and other fantastical elements drawn from the collection of Middle Eastern folk tales known in English as the 'Arabian Nights'.
Notes
- Although this production is a remake of the 1924 movie of the same name starring Douglas Fairbanks, the two films have important differences, the most significant of which is that the thief and the king are separate characters in the 1940 version.
- A critical and commercial success, this film won three Oscars in 1941, for Best Color Cinematography, Best Color Art Direction and Best Special Effects.
