Synopsis
After receiving an unexpected visit from his mysteriously injured brother Mark, Alex decides to take his family back to the country home of his boyhood. The tranquility of the countryside is broken, however, when his wife Vera reveals to him that she is pregnant. Alex believes that the child is not his, and matters are further complicated when his son Kir (Maksim Shibayev) tells him that Alex's young friend Robert was at their house once when he was away at work.

- Very loosely based on the 1953 novella "The Laughing Matter" by Armenian-American writer William Saroyan (1908-1981)
- Directed by Russian filmmaker Andrey Zvyagintsev, who also directed Vozvrashcheniye (2003).
- This film was the recipient of several awards, including the Russian Film Clubs Federation Award at the 2007 Moscow International Film Festival, and the White Elephant award for Best Cinematographer (awarded to Mikhail Krichman for his work on this movie) at the 2007 Russian Guild of Film Critics awards.
