Synopsis
Oliver Quade, the self-proclaimed "Human Encyclopedia", sells encyclopedias by dazzling an audience with his accumulated knowledge acquired from reading and memorising the entire contents of the encyclopedia he sells. He makes his pitch at state fairs featuring dog shows. However, at one such fair, the Great Dane who wins the title of 'Champion' ends up being mysteriously killed, an event which also leads to the murder of three humans. Quade's bright young assistant and Human-Encyclopedia-in-training, "Small Fry", who reads a pulp magazine called "Detective Horror" and fancies himself as a budding Sherlock Holmes, starts nosing around into the mystery, dragging Quade along with him.
