Synopsis
Reporter Jerry Thompson is assigned to decipher the meaning of "Rosebud", the last spoken word of dying newspaper magnate Charles Foster Kane (Orson Welles). Through its unique jigsaw-puzzle storytelling, inventive cinematography, brilliant ensemble acting, and superlative directing by Welles himself, the movie unfolds as a riveting portrait of power, greed and materialism, as Thompson attempts to put the jigsaw together, and discover that missing piece of the puzzle that will unlock the ultimate secret of the personality of 'Citizen Kane'.
Notes
- Considered by many critics, filmmakers, and film devotees to be the greatest film of all time, "Citizen Kane" was voted as such in five consecutive decennial British Film Institute Sight & Sound polls of critics.
- Selected in 1989 for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
