Putyovka v zhizn
(1931)
AKA: Road to Life
Country: Soviet Union
Genre: Drama
Synopsis
When the police round up street boys, they are distributed to various orphanages. But many of the boys run away from every orphanage they are sent to. When a decision is made to send these feral boys to a prison for minors, Nikolai Sergeiev offers an alternative solution: to create a labour commune (essentially, the Russian equivalent of a 'Boys' Town') where the boys will work as carpenters, shoemakers, and various other trades, where they will feed themselves and remain free citizens. But will these good intentions succeed in practice?...
