Synopsis
In the depths of the Depression, two teenage boys, Eddie (Frankie Darro) and Tommy (Edwin Phillips), strike out on their own in order to help their struggling parents - and find life on the road tougher than they expected.

My Movie Rating:
9 / 10 7 / 10 Excellent. Pre-Code and don't we know it! Probably the most realistic Depression film, perhaps partly because the director, William Wellman, had a knockabout boyhood himself. After having been a fighter pilot with the French Foreign Legion during the First World War he won the first-ever Academy Award for Best Picture with Wings, a corking First World War aviation epic/buddy film/sentimental romance -- not to be confused with Larisa Shepitko's brilliant film of the same name about a former Second World War Russian fighter pilot become an obscure headmistress.
