The Solitary Sin
(1919)
AKA: The Naked Truth
Country: USA
Genre: Drama
Synopsis
Three boys from the same neighbourhood - Bob, John and Edward - have different experiences with sex. Meredith Senior carefully explains to his son Bob (Gordon Griffith) about the facts of life, and takes him to a hospital to see the effects of venereal disease. As an adult, Bob marries and lives happily ever after. John's and Edward's parents, however, leave their boys to find out about sex 'from the streets'. As an adult, John, who's been sexually promiscuous, contracts syphilis and is stopped from marrying and infecting his sweetheart. Edward, on the other hand, has become so addicted to 'The Solitary Sin' that he masturbates himself into an insane asylum.
Notes
- Gordon Griffith, the boy who is 'taken in hand' by his father, receives a credit for his role in this film. The actors playing the two less fortunate boys are left tactfully uncredited.
- The distributor that was set up to sell the picture on its first theatrical release was called the Solitary Sin Corporation.
- Reissued in 1924 as "The Naked Truth"
