7 / 10 I was expecting this to be pretty good but was surprised to find it wasn't. The book is much better.
My Movie Rating: 5 / 10 9 / 10 A touching and engaging made for TV film with wonderful performances from Nick Robinson as young Willie Beech and John Thaw as the grouchy old man. In those days you had a boy foisted on you whether you wanted one or not! It was good to see the developing relationship between man and boy handled well although the plot had its dark side. Thomas Orange was good in the supporting role as Willie's friend, Zacharias. Interesting but trivial was the scene supposedly at a London railway station which was, in fact, Loughborough Station on the preserved Great Central Railway.
