Synopsis
Irresponsible tramp Bim takes young runaway Bill under his wing. As their unlikely friendship blooms, the duo thwarts a robbery and clears the name of the local schoolteacher, who is suspected of embezzling. Bim also helps reunite another boy with his family, and his noble actions earn him the respect of the townspeople who had once considered him just a shiftless bum.

A sentimental tale of two hobos - one a man, the other a young boy - who become inseparable. The adult hobo, Bim (Buck Jones), repeatedly insists on doing the right thing, but discovers each time that no good deed ever goes unpunished by the 'virtuous' townsfolk. Of course, eventually the townsfolk see the error of their ways, but not before nearly lynching poor Bim. The relation between Bim and Bill (Georgie Stone) is very nicely portrayed.

John Ford at 20th Century Fox. Sweet plot and workmanlike directing. The relationship between man and boy is a bit underdeveloped: we see that they are close, but not how or why they become so. Bertrand disparu, from 1986, is a better treatment of the misfit-man-befriends-runaway-boy theme.
