Walkabout
(1971)

Country: Australia

Genre: Drama

IMDb

Synopsis

A teenage girl and her little brother are abandoned in the Australian outback after the suicide of their father. Their situation is perilous with little available shelter, sweltering heat and a lack of water. Fortunes change when they encounter a young aborigine on 'walkabout'who helps them survive in the harsh terrain. Communication is a problem, although more for the girl than for her little brother, who still has a child's ability to cut straight through the language to the message.

A great movie and Lucien John was awesome and I too liked the last five minute "surprise."

Based on James Vance Marshall's novel. Beautifully portrays the landscapes, plants and animals of the Australian outback...and also offs quite a few of the animals. Very 70s: viewer titillation provided by shots of dewy Jenny Agutter and of Aboriginal women's bare breasts; a snub-nosed little boy in a resplendently traditional school uniform; Noble Savagery.

A very good movie shot in some stunning locals with above average acting and good writting. There are some wonderfully dark plot lines. I consider this movie a must watch. I recommend Walkabout highly.
