Synopsis
An orphaned 10 year old boy is "adopted" by an older soldier. Complications arise when the man falls in love with a woman and the boy starts to worry that he is now second best. A nicely done and easy to follow tale of intergenerational friendship.

8 / 10 A very beautiful and moving story with characters that seem absolutely real - one feels one knows them - and amazing acting from the principal actors. It doesn't get much better than this - a classic of Soviet cinema.
