Synopsis
5 motherless children struggle to save their father from financial ruin. When the Bastable children fail to find treasure in their own backyard, Albert-next-door's uncle rewards them with tales of treasure seeking in exotic lands. When a bailiff knocks at the door and serves father with a writ against all their furniture, Dora schemes to brew up a cold remedy and test it on Noel. When Noel's cold takes an alarming turn for the worse, Alice heads off to gain the assistance of Mary Leslie, a pioneering young doctor.

7 / 10 OK treatment of the first entry in E. Nesbit's wonderful Bastable family series, which contains no magic and doesn't lend itself particularly well to the screen -- indeed, this film departs from the book a fair bit in the interests of creating plot structure and dramatic incident.
