Synopsis
Old John is an elderly hermit who lives in a hollowed-out redwood tree, the better to commune with nature. Lost in the forest, young Jackie is befriended and protected by the kindly old man. When he's not busy confounding a group of forest-despoiling woodchoppers, Old John does his best to play matchmaker between Jackie's widowed mother and a handsome doctor who likewise lives in the Enchanted Forest for health reasons.

6 / 10 The entire film is available on Youtube. I'll allow for the weaknesses, knowing under what circumstances the movie was made. My seven out of ten is at least two notches too high.
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10 A simple good-hearted film that kids, and those who love kids, love. And the acting is more than decent. (I did chuckle over the mean old lumberjacks marching and singing thru the woods.) What more to say?
According to TCM's David Osborne, it was made in 16mm and in Eastman Color by a small company that couldn't afford anything more expensive. Bless those little people.
