One of the greatest boy movies ever. David ('Dai') Bradley is forever immortalised as Billy Casper. (He was a fine actor, and continued to show how superb he was in films and TV series of the 70s, such as "The Jensen Code".) Brian Glover also gives a terrific performance. An absolute must-see.
My Movie Rating: 10 / 10One of Ken Loach's first films, and his best -- Cathy Come Home and Sorry We Missed You are also excellent, but Land and Freedom, for instance, is not a patch on Juan Antonio Bardem's Seven Days in January: in fact, it could aptly have been titled Homage to Catalonia: The Soap. Kes is part of the 'kitchen sink realism' movement in British film that produced such fine movies as A Taste of Honey, A Kind of Loving, This Sporting Life, The Leather Boys, Billy Liar and The L-Shaped Room, but is also something special by itself.
My Movie Rating: 10 / 10I was floored by this picture. I have nothing negative to say.

I totally agree with the other reviewers on the excellence of David Bradley and how superbly he performed in this movie. Thanks to TCM and the cable's DVR system I was able to tape it and it will remain in my DVR for as long as possible. I will never get tired of watching it.
