Synopsis
A young boy befriends an old hermit who lives on a mountain, who helps him nurse an injured hawk back to health. But the townsfolk are suspicious of the reclusive old man, and soon the boy's deputy-sheriff father finds himself reluctantly having to defend the mountain man against vigilantes.
Notes
- Based on the 1974 novel of the same name by American author Jack Bickham (1930-1997). Bickham's 1971 novel "The Apple Dumpling Gang" was also made into a movie, The Apple Dumpling Gang (1975).
- Filming for this production took place over July-August 1976 (so Lee Montgomery was 14 years old), in Utah.
- The movie's $1.3 million budget was Doty-Dayton Productions' largest up to that time. Among Doty-Dayton's previous productions had been "Seven Alone" (1974), Where the Red Fern Grows (1974), and Against a Crooked Sky (1975).
