Biography

Otto Reinwald was the only boy of four siblings, all of whom played in a family vaudeville act in Berlin, managed by their father. Whilst playing in Denmark, he was introduced to Benjamin Christensen, who was to become recognised as the leading director of early Danish cinema, and who was to cast Otto in his directorial debut, the 1914 film "Det hemmelighedsfulde X" ("The Mysterious X"). Christensen was to describe Otto as "an exceptionally nice, attractive boy, more beautiful than talented." (quoted in "The Moving Picture Boy", John Holmstrom, p. 14) Be that as it may, Otto would continue in movies - often in lead roles - for most of the next two decades, until 1932, subsequently becoming a production manager.
