Biography

Joseph Boudreaux is the little Cajun boy who became the star of Robert Flaherty's "Louisiana Story". For his role in the film he received $3,000, which was a very considerable sum of money in 1948. With the money, the boy was able to buy his parents such items as a refrigerator, a butane stove and an automobile (a 'Mercury'); and his parents were able to use the rest of the money to build a home for themselves in Lake Charles, Louisiana. In later life, Boudreaux was to work on oil rigs for several years, before becoming a telephone lineman.

Notes

The short films, "Revisiting Flaherty's Louisiana Story" (2010) and "'JC' - the boy in Louisiana Story" (2017), both of which consist essentially of interview footage with the elderly Boudreaux, are available to view on Vimeo.
