Cyanure (2013)

This is a movie worth watching. It is uplifting and pleasant even though any trailers from this movie more or less did injustice portraying what the story might try to tell. One might expect a dark movie portraying a mean character for the "Dad" who just got released from prison, a sad and depressed young boy who hasn't seen his dad since the day he was born but, instead you come across a beautiful movie with interesting story to follow, considerably good and convincing acting by Alexandre Etzlinger (Achille)even though this is his first major acting part.

I hope you watch this movie and enjoy it as much as I did.

L'enfant d'en haut (2011)

Even though the movie had its moments and every once in a while it would shine but, it was hard to connect with the characters the way one might connect with movies in this genre. The problem with Simon was lack of parenting which in its own way reflected on the "sister". Somehow it was easier for Simon to click and relate with total strangers rather than try to repair a damaged relationship with his "sister". At points the movie didn't advance as quickly as it should have and there were too many scenes with Simon stealing ski equipment and stashing them somewhere. The reason for stealing and cheating and lying became obvious in the first few scenes in the beginning. Everything was done out of necessity and there was no reason to emphasis on that issue. Instead it needed to built Simon's character and his twisted and strange relationship with his "sister". Close to the end of the movie is the only time when we hear about the reality behind their relationship and it is a tad too late to break the mold and reinvent Simon and his "sister". Even though the movie tries to show it is the love Simon has for his "sister" that drives him to steal and cheat but it comes short of delivering it and it goes the opposite direction to show Simon as a provider for their little family. The only time we see the real Simon is at the final scenes when he is all alone and desperate and has no where to go. That is when we see a helpless child with a big responsibility and secret on his shoulders. The movie tries to solve the problem at the very last scene with Simon in one car and the "sister" in another car while passing each other hoping this will put the viewers at ease that things are getting better but, unfortunately the fact that the cars are traveling in the opposite directions defies the happy ending. There is a gap, a wedge between Simon and "sister", a gap so deep that prevents them to admit who and what they are for each other.

Eres mi héroe (2003)

Make sure you watch this movie. A very good coming of age movie that deals with sadness, fear, confusion, loneliness, first love, friendship and separation.

The Games Maker (2013)

Sorry to say this but the movie is extremely weak. Somehow gave me the impression of a cheap remake of "Spy Kids" movies mixed with "A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)". It isn't even good for very young kids (6-7) with vivid imagination. Very disappointing.

Melody (1971)

There has been a lot of poppy love stories and movies throughout my movie watching years that I seen. Some I have forgotten because they weren't really worth remembering. Some have had a slight impact on me. But one movie stands out throughout all those years "Melody". "Melody" is a kind of movie that you have to be a young kid to have an impact on you when you watch it for the first time. I was twelve when I saw this movie for the first time and to be honest I lived it for a while. I watched it many times after I was older and twice in last couple of years. When you are a kid and you watch this movie you don't care about how poor the acting was or how ordinary the story was. Those things don't matter when you are just beginning to find out about "love" and "kissing" and etc. What matters is you become the hero you want him to succeed in becoming one with the girl of his dreams.

Yes Mark Lester is cute and Jack Wild is wild and you want to be either of them when you are a preteen or a teenager watching this movie. The thing is when you are young and you watch it for the first time it stays with you and later in your older days you can enjoy it again because it brings back good memories.

In my opinion if you are going to watch this movie first put on your "adolescent" eyeglasses then watch it. You will enjoy it. After all we all have been young and naive once long time ago just like the heroes in this movie.

Mickey Matson and the Copperhead Conspiracy (2012)

Good for 6-8 years old kids. By the way the United States of America is not a monarchy and has no king or queen to bestow knighthood on its subjects, one of the many flaws of this movie.

Oorlogsgeheimen (2014)

I have no other choice but to give it a 10. It is a beautiful movie. Yes, the theme is "war" but the subject isn't. I saw it as a movie purely about friendship and nothing else. Yes, both boys lost their innocence due to the cruelty of war. Yes, their friendship got to be tested quite a few times throughout the movie but at the end it was their friendship that saved both boys.

Both boy actors, Maas Bronhuyzen and Joes Brauens were terrific. They conveyed their feelings and emotions in a way a seasoned actor would do. Dialogs were short and to the point without wasting viewers time with lengthy conversations trying to convince viewers about main characters feelings, emotions and thoughts. In three specific scenes the facial expressions, the emotion and the acting in general felt very real and convincing. The ending scene sealed the movie and the friendship and with no doubt it became obvious that both friends have their hearts set in the right place.
