Unbreakable (2000)

Movie has grown on me with repeated watchings. I still think the mythic tradition aspect of comics is too weak a premise to be really convincing. Spencer T. Clark & Samuel Jackson do a great acting job.

Uncle Buck (1989)

John Candy was a great comic actor. Shame we had to lose him. He and Mac have some funny scenes.

Unstrung Heroes (1995)

A bit of a disjointed plot, I thought - but I just loved it. The acting is wonderful all around. I felt almost at home with these characters! Well, my nutty uncles weren't quite THAT nutty but they had their moments. :-)

Valentin (2002)

Full of quotable lines from the cute and shrewd title character. For once, I would have liked an english audio version. There was nonstop text on the screen throughout. I had to backtrack if I wanted to catch action or facial expressions. Still a warm and insightful movie though.

Le Vieil homme et l'enfant (1967)

A tender story that occurs against a background of cruel realities. There are lots of grey areas here and some three dimensional characters. 'Grampa' has loads of prejudices and opinions but still forms a loving bond with his adorable 'grandson', who is Jewish.

Village of the Damned (1995)

Some good moments. That guitar (banjo?) on the soundtrack during one part of the movie made me want to throw things!

La Vita è bella (1997)

One of a kind and wonderful. The scene where Guido 'translates' the Nazi's orders had me laughing. And then crying. I'd heard of that but always thought it was bull. Guido's spirit reminds me of someone.

Viva Cuba (2005)

Irresistable. This is by far the best boy/girl puppy love story I've seen. A solid ring of truth since the two spend at least half their time squabbling with each other. Both kids have loads of charm and animation and it would be most unfair to treat this as solely a boy movie. Lots of visual bonuses.
