La Mala educación (2004)
Great plot manipulation. I detected 3 layers of storytelling but I think I missed one or two. The boys are just beautiful.
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10The Maldonado Miracle (2003)
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10The Man Without a Face (1993)
My Movie Rating: 10 / 10Manny's Orphans (1978)
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Marcelino pan y vino (1955)
This is simply a sweet tearjerker of a movie, nothing more, and it never pretends to be anything else. Nicely done with restraint in most of the right places, terrific photography, and a beautiful and disarmingly natural acting boy.
The English voice dubbed for Pablito is terrible. Definitely go with the Spanish soundtrack and English subs.
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10Martian Child (2007)
What's not to like? Maybe a formula flavor which the clever screenplay makes up for. Bobby Coleman is an adorable little Martian.
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10Matinée (1977)
Armando Martin Martinez who plays Jorge - a very charming Mexican boy with freckles! Very cute.
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10Maximum Overdrive (1986)
Uh huh. Okay, Stephen King, have you ever considered writing an opera?
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Maya (2001)
The ending was an awful shock after the charming and humorous setup in the body of the movie. Expertly made & beautifully photographed. Nikhil Yadav is very cute as a little boy-angel who is mostly devilish.
I did, however, have to re-watch 'Pather Panchali' immediately after in order to calm down.
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10Maya (1966)
My Movie Rating: 5 / 10Mean Creek (2004)
I'm so fond of Ryan Kelley I had to force myself to notice the fine acting of the other young leads. Ryan can do so much with just a subtle change of expression in that angelic face. But I am definitely biased.
The commentary track on the DVD made me appreciate the hard choices a director and film editor must often make, chopping scenes they both loved. It made me respect these filmmakers for placing character development and clear focus on the plot above their creative egos.
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10Men of Boys Town (1941)
Unrestrained nonstop sentiment; too syrupy even for me. But it is worth it to see little Darryl Hickman in the 2nd half. Incredibly cute.
(also interesting to see that in 1941 an actor could tell a boy that he has beautiful eyes.)
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Meng ying tong nian (2003)
Lovely movie, and contains many beautiful images.
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10Mercury Rising (1998)
Given the boy's autism and the loud, violent handling the film gives him its a wonder he didn't end up completely shattered. Miko is totally endearing, as usual.
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10Mickey Matson and the Copperhead Conspiracy (2012)
It is a kid's movie but I thought the elements were handled pretty well - much better than I expected.
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10The Mighty (1998)
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10Mikres Afrodites (1963)
My Movie Rating: 3 / 10Milk Money (1994)
Carter is really cute & charming.
My Movie Rating: 5 / 10Millions (2004)
So many people who know me, including members here, have been desperately urging me to see this movie - and now I know why! This is very close to perfection in making a movie with a genuine positive theme. Everything fits and everything works: the acting, direction, music score, writing - everything.
The fantasy elements work movingly because of the truth and sincerity of the boys acting and are only carefully enhanced by the photography and direction. the spiritual 'visitations' are done with intelligence and humor and warmth that is miles from mawkishness. My heart went out to both boys, despite a relative's remark "how could such a boy have such a big brother!" Some people just don't understand boys; their parts were written superbly. I dare not say more.
I loved the music score which supported all and was not intrusive. And it is always a relief not to be subjected to electric guitars and screaming 'singers.'
My Movie Rating: 10 / 10The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima (1952)
