The Fallen Idol (1948)

Bobby Henrey is very visible and very appealing. From info on the DVD Carol Reed had a hard job getting a performance out of the boy, but Reed was known to be incredibly patient and ingenious in working with kids.

It was interesting to me to see Ralph Richardson in such a kindly and benign role.

A Far Off Place (1993)

Not bad, but see 'Walkabout' for a much better treatment of this theme.

Fear of the Dark (2002)

Predictable spook stuff but the boys do a good job.

Finding Neverland (2004)

The boys are excellent, the whole cast is excellent. I confess I didn't know Johnny Depp was capable of such fine acting. Nick Roud as the oldest boy, George, caught my eye and specially roused my admiration. I hope he gets more screen roles; although I see from the DVD extras that his voice had already changed at premiere time. There seems to be a lot of that going around. :)

Fireflies in the Garden (2008)

with all the scattershot editing and stunted character development and painfully piecing together just who is related to whom and how - I just could not give a damn about any of them.

And that saccharine ballad sung over the ending had me switching off the sound.

Fluke (1995)

Beautifully made but with a disappointingly hollow storyline. Max is radiantly boyish for the time that he appears. Those who fancy dogs more than boy actors should appreciate this more.

Frankenweenie (1984)

Enjoyable, and typical of Tim Burton's dark and delightful stuff. But Barret Oliver was the main interest for me. There couldn't have been a cuter or more appealing little boy in the world at the time - except possibly for Lukas Haas.

Freaks and Geeks (1999-2000)

How TV sitcoms about young people should be done. A ring of humor and truth in spades.
