The Kid (1921)

I finally got around to seeing this classic, and I immediately regretted waiting so long. It simply took my breath away. Jackie Coogan's performance is absolutely superb. He did so much more than just look cute (though he does plenty of that!). He showed an uncanny instinct for real acting, his most amazing performance being when he's taken away from Charlie Chaplin and forcibly put in the back of the truck. Incredibly moving. Major props to Chaplin for working with this little guy to bring out his best. Jackie Coogan more than deserved to be America's first child star.

The NeverEnding Story (1984)

A wonderful, classic film beloved by '80s kids, Gen Xers and millions since. Terrific and beguiling performances by the two boy stars, Noah Hathaway and Barret Oliver. One scary and sad moment is when Atreyu's horse is lost. Millions have been traumatized by it; it may be the most upsetting movie scene for kids since Bambi's mother was murdered. Overall an inspiring and poignant movie. It's currently on YouTube.

This movie really tripped me out. Loved the boys. So weird that they never appeared in anything else.
