Tom & Thomas (2002)

I like the story and the entire idea behind it. Aaron Johnson does a fine job indeed. The movie as a whole is just a bit too modest in its decor and some scenes are a bit overdone. Nice and entertaining nonetheless.

Tom and Huck (1995)

Okay, I'd say this adaptation of the original Mark Twain novel is a bit far-fetched. But hey - I still liked the way both boys dived into their characters. The story is nice and - apart from some flaws - still quite entertaining. The acting is of course not worldshaking, but straight.

Good movie! Three (or even four) layers of time. Great narrative, nice twist, gives you a lot to think about.

Tout contre Léo (2002)

I was kind of missing something at the end. Very sad theme, but there wasn't really much else except Leo's illness storywise.

Treasure Island (1950)

I saw this one a long time ago. It is a classic by today's standards, probably the most sincere adaptation of the original novel by R.L. Stevenson.

The Tree of Life (2011)

Very unusual, distinct and challenging movie. You can definitely call it highly sophisticated and valuable in terms of its artistic approach to the most serious issues of life. There's lots of room for interpretation. If you follow it with an open mind and a steady amount of concentration, while knowing what you are in for, you will enjoy it. Normally not "my cup of tea", I had no problem watching through it, mostly because I knew what I had to expect. It was a worthwhile experience, something you watch and rethink several times, and cherish because of its uniqueness. I kinda liked the wisdom of the narration, while I couldn't really make much of the seemingly unconnected images that from time to time appeared "randomly". I'm sure there's much to it, but that's art, real art. Watching this movie is like a long walk through an art gallery - not exactly what I would call "my" approach to filmmaking, but definitely worth the experience.

Unbreakable (2000)

Awesome performances by all main characters. I'm particularly fond of Spencer Treat Clark, who has some very emotional scenes. I love the way he shows his admiration and love for his dad. The scene in the kitchen is absolutely stirring. I like that kid.

Uncle Buck (1989)

Enjoyable family entertainment. Long time I saw it - as far as I remember, it was funny and witty. Good job, adapted for children mainly.

Unstrung Heroes (1995)

Right, I know this movie. Nathan Watt is smart indeed, the story, however, did not live up to my expectations. I mean, yeah, the underlying themes are lovely and easily detectable. The end was quite good, when Nathan and his dad were watching the movie sequence together in which the boy's late mom appears. That's a heart-rending sequence. The rest of the plot was somehow a bit too weird too me. I mean the uncles - what shall I make of them? They are two thorough oddballs, and I just don't like such characters who are nuts. Nathan though - he was the one who actually made me watch the entire movie. The father-son aspect was fine and emotionally agreeable, as well as the boy's uncertainty whether or not to change his confession. He did very well, indeed. The movie itself is honest and dealing with tough themes. I'll give a 7 actually.

Village of the Damned (1995)

It was okay. I mean the theme is very famous, and the actual adaptation in this version was indeed not bad. However I don't remember having been emotionally involved too much in the story - but it wasn't meant to cause that effect anyway. Thus I have to cherish the quality of the movie objectively, and so I'll give it a solid 7.

La Ville dont le prince est un enfant (1997)

I agree with cal, the ending is indeed unsatisfactory. The final confrontation between the two priests is too long and shifting the focus from the two boys to a rather abstract philosophical discourse about God, love and faith. The preceding 70 minutes are one hell of a treat though! Both boys are absolutely brilliant, they have a shining and very genuine screen presence. Their relationship is portrayed with skill, honesty and empathy - a pleasure to watch!
