The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
Decent accomplishment, genuine portrayal of a real life story. One of the more watchable Will Smith movies.
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10Les quatre cents coups (1959)
I probably expected too much, but anyway, this movie is merely a story about one boy who has problems at school and with his parents. Nothing to get too excited about.
My Movie Rating: 6 / 10Radio Flyer (1992)
A real heart-tugger. Joseph and Elijah are so young in this one. The story is adapted for children mainly. Now I'm maybe a bit too old for movies like this one. Still, I enjoyed it. Both kids show how good they are. The "Fisher"-story is very good, gives an inspiring edge to it.
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10Rails & Ties (2007)
Fine performances by all the main cast. Hollywood shows that it can do it right. This movie is a definite winner, a real emotional masterpiece, going straight to your heart. It has been a while since I was moved to tears so often and with such intensity.
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10Ransom (1996)
Great thriller. I particularly liked Gary Sinise's sly and cunning character. How he adjusted his plan to the changing circumstances by eventually shooting his own associates was simply shrewd. The conclusion did have a happy end though - as almost any movie of this genre seems obliged to have - but I was still thrilled by the setting, the revelations and the psychic duel between Gibson and Sinise. Brawley Nolte plays a minor role, but did a good job.
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10Ratcatcher (1999)
Ratcatcher utterly surprised me. Not because of the talking, which I hardly understood at all (I'm Austrian), but because of the surprising scarcity of dialogues. I doubt that there was a single situation where any of the protagonists talked for more than five seconds in a row. That's why the movie wasn't that difficult to grasp, as most of the plot was primarily carried by images and stunning shots of William Eadie's character. I guess that there were minutes where no-one actually said a word for a long time - which makes this movie maybe the movie with the least words spoken I've ever seen.
Concerning its plot - it's very much reminiscent of Kes. You get a first-hand insight into the bleak and dull existance those kids in Glasgow have to endure. James is suffering from thorough disillusion. The sequences when you actually see him smile - which are two or three maybe - are thus real highlights of the movie. He is the one who bears the emotional burden of the movie. I particularly liked the scene when he was lying on the sofa and his young sister places herself next to him. The other highlight was when he took the bus and found this solitary house and the grain field, where he experienced some kind of relief from his tough life. The ending was ambiguous. I suppose he actually did drown himself - and the last image show his dreams of his family moving away from their bleak existance towards a brighter future - a future he thinks is only possible without him. Just think of the young girl holding the mirror towards the sky - and then you see James' face. And you see him drown again right when the credits start.
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10Reach for Glory (1962)
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10Real Steel (2011)
What a beautiful performance by young Dakota. The Must Watch is for him, and he deserves it.
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10The Reflecting Skin (1990)
It's hard to spot a message, a good theme or golden thread. The leading boy did a pleasant job. Plotwise, however, I was lost. The dialogues and characters were just as weird as the story :/
My Movie Rating: 3 / 10Return to Innocence (2001)

My Movie Rating: 8 / 10Return to the Blue Lagoon (1991)
A very average movie, really not something you should bother too much about. The only scene that I can remember as interesting was the contest between the boy and the shark to determine the dominance at the reef.
My Movie Rating: 4 / 10Richie Rich (1994)
Nice story. Nothing lasting though, there are many similar movies out there. Macauley is good, still he could have done better.
My Movie Rating: 5 / 10The Rifleman (1958-1963)
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10The Ring Two (2005)
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10The Ring (2002)
David Dorfman is awesome in both Ring movies, even more so in the second. The story is wonderfully scary and something you have to see. The basic concept behind it is very imaginative. I liked it. Still, it's not more than a horror movie, but a good one.
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10River of No Return (1954)
Very decent western.
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10The River Wild (1994)
Good one! Fine cast, great acting, thrilling suspense, nice twists. Entertaining, but not too demanding and sophisticated. Mazzello, as always, shows how good he is.
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10The River (1984)

My Movie Rating: 7 / 10Road to Perdition (2002)
Oh yes, a great movie. I love the cast - ol' Paul Newman is perfect in his role, as is Tom Hanks and the perfidious Jude Law. Tyler Hoechlin - well, I was stunned by his performance. He has a substantial role in the movie and bears the emotional and psychological burden. It's a movie dealing with fathers and sons, with justice and injustice, with retaliation and atonement. The setting is outstanding, the depiction of the genre and the contemporary atmosphere needs to be applauded. You feel like being there, in the dark, gloomy 30s.
I like Paul Newman's line: "This is the life we chose, the life we lead. None of us will see heaven."
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10The Road (2009)
