Joey (1985)

Promising story, rather awkward transformation.

Joshua (2007)

Jacob's performance is actually decent - he's good at portraying that odd edge in his character. The story is a bit too subtle for a horror movie, the psychological terror is certainly there. Missing was a clear-cut background story as to why Joshua actually started acting weird - was it demonic possession? Was it a psychological defect, bequeathed to him by his mother? What exactly is the role of his uncle Ned? I find these questions intruiging, and they make the movie more interesting than it appears at first glance.

Jumanji (1995)

My opinion: Do not underrate this movie that much. I didn't particularly like it - in fact I almost forgot about it for many years - but the story is simply very, very smart. The idea behind the plot is utter genius. Okay, the actual transformation did not work perfectly, but I insist that it was still a straight accomplishment that had 1. a nice cast, 2. sustainable visual effects and achievements, 3. a great story, 4. both funny and entertaining sequences, that even made you pause and think sometimes, which I regard as a major attainment of any movie.

So - I'll give it a solid 7.

Jurassic Park (1993)

It's a good one and definitely worth watching. The emphasis though is not on the kids, they're just a part of the movie. The special effects and the action make JP a classic, especially given the scary dinosaurs.

Kådisbellan (1993)

I just finished watching this movie and at the very end I kept asking myself what it was all about. Like in My Life As A Dog I couldn't really spot a compelling storyline theme that'd appeal to me. It's just the boy and his way of managing his life. Interesting flick if you enjoy such socio-cultural depictions, but too little for me as I long for continuous storyline and character development rather than snapshots.

Kazaam (1996)

This movie is very badly rated at imdb. Yeah, it was average, there isn't really much more to say about it. I particularly couldn't make much of Shaq O'Neil as an actor.

Kes (1969)

Kes is a wonderful movie that has to be considered a masterpiece of British film-making. That's because it's the setting, the surrounding of David Bradley, that is so genuinely depicted and portrayed. You get a first-hand insight into the harsh life of Billy, how he's bullied at school and tormented even by his teacher (who, himself, is caught in disillusion as he pretends being Bobby Charlton and loses the football game in a shameful manner). Viewing the movie from the point of view of society, we see a life that is bleak and dull for young Billy - and then, there's a chance to escape. That chance is Kes - a kestrel. The relationship between Billy and Kes eventually overlaps the scorning desolation, they shine amidst bleakness and vanquish seclusion. That's inspiring, truly inspiring. The way the movie ends though is somehow a symbol for the transitoriness of temporary elation. David Bradley is the archetype of the lonesome, genuinely blue lad on the brink of adulthood. This movie has much to it. Good acting, brilliant setting, inspirational themes.

Kicking and Screaming (2005)

I don't think this movie is as bad as some people say, I actually found it enjoyable. Will Ferrell is a jerk, but Robert Duvall levels up the story. The kids were also rather good, especially the two Italians :)
