Return from Witch Mountain (1978)
OK, but the first film was pretty good and, especially considering the ending, should have been left well enough alone.
My Movie Rating: 5 / 10The Return of Rin Tin Tin (1947)
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10The Return of the Psammead (1993)
Charming series by Helen Cresswell of Moondial, The Secret World of Polly Flint etc. It's a tribute to the work of the great E. Nesbit, pioneer of realistic fictional depictions of children and of low fantasy -- mind you, Edward Eager was also a great admirer of Nesbit's, and he used her inspiration to create not spinoffs but low fantasies set in the time and place he knew, such as the wonderful Half Magic. As Five Children and It, The Phoenix and the Carpet and the later standalone The Enchanted Castle have all been given TV series, it's a pity that The Story of the Amulet, the third book in the trilogy, never has been. For that matter, why hasn't Half Magic?
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10Return to Innocence (2001)
Rather woodenly acted but interesting and worthwhile.
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10Richie Rich (1994)
My Movie Rating: 4 / 10Richie Rich's Christmas Wish (1998)
My Movie Rating: 3 / 10The Road Home (2010)
A little contrived perhaps, but funny, poignant, relatable and multilayered. Ten-year-old Pico, a "third-culture kid", is a refreshing character, mulish and pugnacious.
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10Road to Happiness (1942)
Wholehearted and wholesome. Billy Lee impressively portrays a wide range of emotions.
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10Robby (1968)
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10The Rocket Man (1954)
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10Rocketman (2014)
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10Rocketship (2013)
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10The Rocking Horse Winner (1949)
Remarkable movie based on the D. H. Lawrence short story of the same name. An overlooked dark gem from this period in English cinema, as is Queen of Spades by Thorold Dickinson of the much better-known and also excellent Gaslight. John Howard Davies, future BBC Head of Comedy and Thames Television Head of Light Entertainment, does a great job.
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10The Rocking Horse Winner (1977)
My Movie Rating: 5 / 10Rockmount (2014)
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10Roepman (2011)
Praised for its realism. Adapts the book of the same name by Jan van Tonder, who has a cameo. A welcome surprise!
My Movie Rating: 8 / 10Roken als een Turk (2012)
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10Roma (2018)
Could make a good dual watch with El despertar de las hormigas.
My Movie Rating: 9 / 10Rome (2005-2007)
My Movie Rating: 7 / 10Romulus, My Father (2007)
Lovely film based on Raimond Gaita's memoir. Excellent acting from Kodi Smit-McPhee.
