Synopsis
Hard times come for the Carraclough family and they are forced to sell their dog to the rich Duke of Rudling. However, Lassie, the dog, is unwilling to leave the young Carraclough boy and sets out on the long and dangerous journey in order to rejoin him.
Notes
- Based on the 1940 novel "Lassie Come-Home" by Eric Knight. The hyphen in the title of the novel derives from a character in the novel accusing the Carraclough family of training Lassie to be a "come-home" dog, that is, a dog trained to break loose and come home to its original owner after it has been sold, so that the original owner can fraudulently re-sell it any number of times. The film version, by dropping the hyphen, transforms the title into a wistful command.
