Synopsis
When the inhabitants of the remote British island of Longsea discover that the British state has no legal right to govern the territory, they are initially jubilant, for it means thwarting the government's intention to build an airbase on their island. But venal island leader Graham Lane (a superb comic performance by veteran British television actor Bill Wallis) sees independence as an opportunity to offer airbases on the island to practically everyone, and get Longsea 'on the map' of international politics. However, a researcher soon discovers that Longsea was in fact made an absolute monarchy when it first gained its independence, and with the help of young ornithologist Robert (Steffan Morris) the islanders decide to overthrow Lane and re-establish the monarchy under the legitimate heir - local girl, Rosie - thus conserving their way of life by effectively abolishing any 'government' on the island at all!
