Synopsis
On 23 December 1993, a 19-year-old student shot three people in a bank before killing himself. This film comprises 71 scenes revolving around an illegal immigrant from Romania (Gabriel Cosmin Urdes), a college student, a couple who have just adopted a girl, a middle-aged bank guard, and a lonely old man who has emotional difficulties with his daughter - all linked by the fact that, simply by chance, either they, or someone connected with them, will be at the bank on the fateful day of the shooting.

- Written and directed by Austrian filmmaker Michael Haneke (b. 1942)
- This is the third and final film in Haneke's 'Vergletscherungs-Trilogie' ('Glaciation Trilogy'), preceded by "The Seventh Continent" (1989) and "Benny's Video" (1992). The trilogy is named after the director's claim that the films constitute a reflection on the "progressive emotional glaciation of Austria".
